Field observation transect plan
Plan observation effort for evenly spaced walking lines in a rectangular study area.
How it is calculated
Lines = floor(width ÷ spacing) + 1. Stops per line = floor(length ÷ stop interval) + 1. Total stops = lines × stops per line.
Assumptions & limits
Lines run along the area length and include a starting edge. Walking distance excludes travel between lines. Obtain access permission and avoid disturbing habitat or entering hazardous ground. Defaults are illustrative planning inputs, not recommended minimums or a guarantee of safety.
